empathy

empathy

Empathy is connecting with the emotion that someone is experiencing, not the event or the circumstance.

from "Daring Greatly" by Brene Brown

Keep in mind that it is not helpful to rebuke others for their limiting attitudes.  We evolve at our own pace.  There is no need to create a new jargon or foster any separatism between those who are “enlightened’ and those who are still searching or suffering.  The simple process of observation, reflection, and acceptance will create a different energy for yourself and others.  However, if there is a time when you sense that you could make a difference, let the moment guide you.  Follow your intuition.

character building

character

There are basic principles of effective living.  People can only experience true success and enduring happiness as they learn and integrate these principles into their basic character.

- Integrity, humility, courage, modesty, and the golden rule.

- It is where the greatest impact over the long term is.

- It’s where you sow the seeds of greatness.  Greatness starts from the inside out.

realize your potential

potential

"Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.  There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.  We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.  It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.  As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same."

– Nelson Mandela said quoting Marianne Williamson in his inaugural speech as president of South Africa.

change

change

We are used to hearing "If you fall, try again or get back up, and try again and again.”  However, it may get to a point where we must try something else.  It’s just smarter that way.  You can’t just keep doing the same negative thing over and over.  That is insanity.

- So, at one point, don’t just keep trying something over and over but try something new.

resilience

resilience

Resilience is the human ability to adapt in the face of tragedy, drama, adversity, hardship, and ongoing significant life stressors.  (American psychological association)

It used to be thought that some people have it and some don’t.  However, resilience is quite common.  We are all stronger than we give ourselves credit for.

Cultivating resilience

  • A commitment to find meaning in what is happening to you.
  • A belief in your capacity to create a positive outcome
  • The willingness to grow
  • The choice to laugh and be grateful
